Goth Cards

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

I went to a masked goth ball in Amsterdam recently.  Everyone dressed really elaborately.  Listening in on the conversations was a disappointment however.  All of the quotes taken for these cards were lifted from a monthly local art magazine.  (Except for goth A which was written by turophile)

Drawings from Berlin

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

I have been attempting to do a drawing every day since December.  It hasn’t really worked out that way  I have made about 60 so far.  It is really helping my composition skills though.  Here are some drawings I did in Berlin and a couple from here. (click on image for closer view)

Regions of the US

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

These are the regions of the US from my perspective, I imagine that these may be different for people from other parts of the US.

Northwest: green

Southwest: rust

Midwest: yellow

East Coast: blue

New England: lilac

South: red

Freak States: fuchsia

I would be interested to hear if anybody can think of additional regions or if their map is different than mine.

Future USA

(a project I worked on years ago)

FUTURE OF THE UNITED STATES

by mod trent

The year is 2083.  After years of mismanagement, the 50 United States find that they can no longer function as one united country.  Piece by piece, states are sold off to different countries.  The map you see before you is the new allegiances that have formed, provided below is an explanation of how each came to be.

After tapping Alaska for it’s oil which caused a brief boom economy, making Anchorage a destination city the world around, the state falls to economic ruin.  It’s wilderness plundered, there is no “wild frontier” tourism left and the state can no longer pull it’s weight economically.  It is sold back to the Russians at a $1 per acre.

The Japanese have long had a toehold on property ownership in Hawaii.  The US decides to give legal ownership to the country and sells the island for drilling rights in Hokkaido.

Due to global warming, much of the formerly fertile plains of middle america becomes useless.  China buys land stretching from Idaho to Ohio.  Meat and potato cuisine is replaced by Szechwan and Cantonese.  Unemployed middle americans find work in Chinese owned textile factories and finally get into shape with mandatory morning exercise routines.

The only state in middle america that the Chinese disdain from is Nevada, which is annexed by Hong Kong as a remote satellite for debauchery.

The long hoped for independence of Texas finally takes place.  Texas becomes its own country in 2064.  In the quest for more land Texas wages war with Mexico.  Civil war breaks out, as half of the new countries’ citizens are Mexican.  White bred Texans find themselves in a minority and appeal for foreign aide.

The eastern southern states of the remaining union decide to secede.  Louisville becomes the new capital.  Slavery is reinstated resulting in mass riots with property damages surmounting in the trillions of dollars.

The remaining fourteen states become the new United States.  Harking back to English tradition, figurehead royalty is reinstated.  The royal palace is built on Rodeo Drive, Los Angeles.  Real government is reserved for Washington DC.  With the media scrutiny largely focusing on the new royalty, bureaucracy becomes more efficient.  Political officials are free to wallow in their own crapulence and DC becomes the fattest city in the United States.

Last year I became fascinated by texting.  It makes sense for haiku because it is similar to kanji.

Berlin ‘National Geographic’ style

Friday, June 11th, 2010

This was an idea that my sister and I came up with while I was visiting her in Berlin.  After seeing an art installation about Africa done ‘National Geographic’ style, I told her that I could turn anything into a National Geographic story.  My challenge: to make her life NG style.
